The T-14 Armata Russian primary battle tank is the next step in Russian technology. It is based upon the Armata Universal Combat Platform. Find out more about this tank by reading the following. Its protection levels, cost, and rumors surrounding its replacement. This article will give all the information that you need to make a decision about whether this tank is right.

Russian main battle tank

T-14 Armata, the main battle tank of Russia, is being hailed as an innovator. The tank was first displayed at the Victory Day parade, Moscow. It was highly praised for its advanced capabilities. The Armata was not present on the battlefields of Ukraine, however. Why?

Armata has sophisticated sensors and a high level of automation. It also features an active protection system. The Armata will be in production for at most five years. Between 2015 and 2020, the Russian army will acquire 2,300 Armatas.

Cost

T-14 Armata MBTs can cost as much as $812 million. The project has been underway since 2014, with the Russian Ministry of Defence ordering a number of them in 2017. Delivery was originally planned to begin in 2018, however, delivery has been delayed due a variety of technical and funding issues. The Russian Army is expected to begin receiving deliveries in 2019 and 2020.

Armata's performance and cost are comparable to those of current MBTs, but the cost is the big concern. Sources claim that the Armata may cost up to three-times more than an upgraded T-72. Even though it isn't nearly as expensive as the K2 Black Panther's, the Armata's cost still puts strain on Russia’s modest defense spending.

Protection levels

The armor on the T-14 Armata is not as strong as on other modern tanks. Its weakest point is the hull Bow, where crew members can be positioned. Active armor protection systems, even though the tank's armor is not very strong, can compensate. Because the turret is also weakly armored, the whole tank may suffer if it is struck. The middle of tank, where the majority of the flammable cartridge is stored, is another weakness.

T-14 comes equipped with advanced composite armor. But the T-14's unique active protection system is what sets it apart. Its Afganit AAPS can intercept both kinetic and chemical rounds. The T-14 is not just equipped with APS.

Rumours abound about its replacement

Rumours circulating that Russia's military isn't planning to replace T-14 Armata by a newer tank are not surprising. Russian military officials have had to cut defense budgets, prioritize other projects, and the Armata cost twice more than originally anticipated. The Abrams may replace the Armata. It could compete with Challenger and Leopard 2.

The T-14 Armata tank is a big hit in the worlds of mobility and armor. Its range is nearly seven miles, which is roughly double the range of the M1 Abrams. Although its speed and armor have been highly praised, there are still some questions.

Future upgrades

Although future upgrades for the T-14 Armata tanks is not known, the Russian military has bought more than 600 T-72B3s over the past few years. These vehicles could serve as a temporary solution and be used to protect the T-14. They suggest Russia will continue to operate a mixed battle tank fleet for years to come.

Future upgrades for T-14 Armata cars are expected to improve the vehicle's armor and protection. Systems to protect the vehicle's electronics from electromagnetic weapons would be added, as well as dual-manual weapons control. These upgrades would also improve the vehicle's ergonomics, as well.
