OBRUM Systems and BAE Systems created the PL-01 tank. The PL-01 was revealed for the first time in 2013. It is a modified version of the Swedish CV90120T medium tank. Its primary weapon is a 105mm or120mm cannon mounted in the unmanned turret.
Adaptiv Technology
The new Polish tank pl 01 is said to be able to "cloak" its own radar and heat signatures in order to fool enemy sensors, similar to the concept used on Boeing's Bird Of Prey program. The entire vehicle is believed to be covered in radio-absorbing material and fitted with an exhaust cooling system. These are both intended to make it harder for detection.
Invisible Armor
The armor of this tank is said to be so effective at absorbing radiation that it is virtually invisible to enemy radars. It is said to have the ability to control temperature and fool thermal sensors.
Modern tanks are big on adaptiv technology. It's an effective concealment method that is more effective than traditional radar-reflecting coatings. The Adaptiv technology employs hexagonal Peltier plates that absorb or reflect light to make the tank almost invisible in poor weather or at night.
It is also believed to be capable of fooling both the infrared and visual sensors. The Adaptiv Technology is believed to have the ability to reduce the radar signatures and heat signatures in the PL-01. However it is not known how this will work, or what it will do for the vehicle.
Polish Army
The Polish army currently has approximately 900 main combat tanks. The most commonly used are the PT-91 Twardys or Leopard 2s. The PL-01 modern tank is an attractive option that will prove to be a significant vehicle for the Polish Army in the near future.
This tank is intended to serve as a fire support vehicle, with a maximum crew size of three. It can also be used in urban combat zones. The tank is equipped with either a 105mm and 120mm smoothbore gun that can fire both conventional rounds and anti-tank guided missiles. It is equipped with an autoloader that can store 29 rounds. Additional 16 rounds are kept in the Turret.
Other armament includes 7.62mm machine gun, a remotely-controlled weapon station and a 40mm automatic grenade launcher.
Obrum has developed the PL-01 prototype direct-fire, support tank. Technical assistance from British conglomerate BAE Systems is also provided. It measures 7 meters long, 3.8 meters wide and 2.8 meters high. The vehicle's standard weight is 30 tons. Additional armor panels can make it up to 35 tons.
Interior
The PL-01's crew will find it comfortable and convenient. It has a "crewmembers' safety capsule" in the chassis, multilayer clay-aramid armor and modern crew seats to reduce the impact of IED blasts. The hull is protected against STANAG 4569 Levels 4a, 4b, and it also has an antimine coating all around.
