The JF-17 Block 3 Design by China and Pakistan

a drone definition

Known as the JF-17 Thunder, this light combat aircraft was developed by China and Pakistan in co-operation. It is equipped with a new radar as well as enhanced electronic warfare capabilities and improved compatibility with avionics. The JF-17 Thunder is also expected to become a viable export platform. The JF-17 Block III fighter will be less competitive than its predecessors. This aircraft will also feature a holographic Head Up Display (HUD) and AESA radar to provide enhanced situational awareness.

The JF-17 joint venture of the Chinese Aviation Industry Group and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex is called AVIC. Pakistan Aeronautical Complex accounts for 58%. The JF-17 has been described as a low cost fighter jet. China has made significant progresses in aircraft design. The JF-17 is likely to be a highly advanced combat plane. China and Pakistan are also looking to develop new export customers.

The first prototype of the JF-17 was designed in 2002. The airframe of this aircraft is made out of titanium alloys and aluminum alloys. It has a semi-monocoque design. The JF-17 is equipped with eight hardpoints, and can support 3,400 kg (7.495 pounds) It has a service ceiling of 55,500 feet. It can travel at 1.6 Mach. The aircraft can also be fitted with air–to-air missiles. Glide bombs can be carried on the aircraft.

The JF-17 Block III now features an infrared search and tracking system. It also includes a digital fly-by-wire flight control system. The new radar and avionics systems are expected to enhance the aircraft's ability to conduct offensive electronic warfare. The Block-III also features a new supersonic anti-ship missile, which is believed to be more powerful than the JF-17's previous anti-ship missiles.

The JF-17 has a radar warning system to detect rocket missiles approaching it. A data link allows for data exchange with ground control centers, combat aircraft, and airborne early warning or control aircraft. The helmet-mounted display allows the pilot to increase his situational awareness and receive information. A Martin-Baker PK16LE ejection chair is available to the pilot.

The JF-17 is a comparatively small aircraft that features eight hardpoints, which are used to store weapons. The aircraft can carry upto 3,400 kilograms of weapons (including air-to-air and missiles). It also includes a MIL-STD-1760 databasebus to allow compatibility with Western weaponry. The JF-17 has a self defense radar jamming module. The aircraft can also be fitted with a targeting pod that can identify air targets and provide guidance for laser guided weapons. The JF-17's range is 20 kilometers. The maximum take-off weight is 13,500 kilograms.
