A military robot refers to a machine which has been created to replace human soldiers. These robots do not require food, sleep, or shelter from the elements. They don't have emotions, passions, or feelings. They are less likely to engage in unethical behavior than soldiers. They also don't experience the same stress, fatigue, and strain as human soldiers.
AVATAR III
AVATAR III, a military robot, is highly customizable unmanned aircraft vehicle (UAV). The robot includes a plug-and play payload dock that allows users the flexibility to make it work for them. The robot can be customized to detect, target and eliminate moving force. In addition, the AVATAR III has the same tactical capabilities as its larger counterpart, the AVATAR III Tactical Robot. It features dual IR LED and LED lights as well as a sturdy, drop-resistant chassis.
The AVATAR III is capable of many things and can be used far beyond the battlefield. It aids law enforcement officers and first responders in assessing and responding to dangerous situations. It is extremely rugged and customizable. It can use multiple wireless channels simultaneously, has two-way sound and can also operate on audio. The robot can also navigate through many terrain types, making it a great choice for combat and law enforcement missions.
REDOWL
iRobot's military robot, REDOWL has been developed. It is based in neural-network technology, which mimics nerve cell behavior. However, unlike other robots it does not have a programming language. It must learn by trial-and-error. It can recognize gunshots, and it can guess the direction of sound. Then it is given the difference between the guesses made and the actual location and then goes through another trial. It learns by doing this and gradually develops a 'neural' connection with the sound source.
The REDOWL robotic military robot uses an array acoustic-optics systems to find the source of gunfire. A modified Xbox controller controls the robot. It is capable in entering dangerous buildings, and can spot gunfire with in milliseconds. It's equipped with thermal imaging cameras that accurately identify targets and two wide-angle camera. It is ideal for urban surveillance, hostage/barcade situations and perimeter protection missions.
MUTT
The MUTT is a military robot that can help ground forces with combat operations or remote operations. The advanced technology of the MUTT makes it an ideal tool to ease the burden of ground troops. The robot can be controlled remotely and teleoperated from anywhere. This allows for increased protection against enemy threats and better projection of combat power. Flexible design means it can adapt to new payloads and controllers while maintaining an increased level of autonomy.
The GDLS created the MUTT military robotics. It is based upon the Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport(SMMET) program. This program is intended to expand the boundaries of autonomous operations and change the paradigm in manned/unmanned warfare. It will be deployed to IBCTs by 2022. It is capable of autonomous resupply and direct fire and can also be modified to allow for EW missions. It is also capable of counter-drone operations.
BigDog
Boston Dynamics is currently developing a military robot named the BigDog. It will be capable of traveling long distances while carrying soldiers and supplies. Developed to run over a variety of terrains, BigDog can also traverse enemy positions and minefields. It is a great way for reinforcement without putting troops at risk. It is strong and durable, so it can carry many items.
Boston Dynamics, the company that created the BigDog, worked with DARPA in order to improve the military robotics. The company has designed the BigDog military robot to be able to cross multiple types of terrains and bring supplies to soldiers in the field. AlphaDog, a seven-ton military robot sponsored by DARPA, was designed to lead combat formations.
