AGR personnel may be eligible to receive a variety o military decorations. These decorations could include the AGR Award, the AGR Certificate and the AGR Medal. AGR personnel could also be awarded the AGR emblem and AGR pin. However, AGR personnel may not receive certain awards reserved for traditional guardsmen.
The AGR Award is, in general speaking, the most prestigious award. It is presented to AGR members who have rendered the most outstanding service. A AGR officer who has served 20 years is eligible for retention. It is not uncommon for AGR personnel to make follow on tours from one year to six years. An average AGR member will be awarded an AGR medal every four years and an AGR award each year.
The Active Guard/Reserve(AGR) program is a little more complicated than most members of the military are used to. Because of this, coordination is required between the PCM as well as the TRICARE provider. In order to qualify for the AGR award, an AGR member must have a passing score on the APFT. AGR members must also have a sufficient clothing allowance to cover the duration of their AGR service. However, the type of mission a unit is undertaking will determine the amount of clothing an AGR member should carry.
