St. Louis was one the first US cities to be established. The region was divided into two separate bodies, the city and county. The boundaries were frozen at 61 square miles, and the municipalities repeatedly resisted annexation of additional territory. It resulted in the creation of an everlasting, cosmopolitan centre that spans many cultures and generations.

Scott Joplin's piano rag "Maple Leaf Rag" is his most famous work. The rag was printed at Sedalia, Missouri in St. Louis. It went on to be the first piano paper rag that sold a million copies. It is unknown when exactly this success occurred, but it was a significant milestone in the musical career. The cover of the rag featured vaudeville stars and was based upon a tobacco advert sketch. The Maple Leaf cover was adopted in the early 1900s. However, the dedication was not overdue as the lower left-hand side of the rag featured Joplin's picture.
