The United States' current military operations is a crucial component of its national security strategy. They are designed to keep our nation's advantage at the international level as we compete for the great power status and protect our homeland, our allies and the citizens of the world.
The causes of war and conflict are often political, economic, and strategic decisions. It is not always as easy as an enemy firing a missile or sending a warship to war. They can also be the result of the United States responding to unexpected disasters or a natural catastrophe, conducting a non-combatant evacuation operation or defending our homeland against Russian aggression.
We have fought five officially declared wars, and many other forms of military engagement that were authorized by Congress or United Nations Security Council Resolutions. International humanitarian aid, anti-terrorism and counter-drug missions are all examples of other types of military engagements.
Afghanistan, 2018
The Afghan security environment continues to be characterized with persistent tensions, difficult conditions and growing security problems that threaten US interests. A significant part of the partnership with the United States is also focused on the training, advice, and support of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.
Yemen, 2018
The lives of Yemenis continue to be at risk because of the complex and contested civil war. This war, fuelled by the Saudi -led coalition in support of Government of Yemen requires continued engagement from the United States to help Yemen gain greater stability.
Pakistan, 2019
The United States is involved in a wide variety of military activities throughout the country and abroad that are directed by the President. These operations include everything from training local troops to supporting foreign countries against terrorists to fighting extremist groups. These efforts often involve the Army.
Israel, 2019
The Army plays an important role in the defense of Israel by providing military forces to assist the Israeli Defense Forces. These forces include command and control units, infantry and armored troops, as well as airborne and airborne special operations forces. The Army provides support for the U.S Embassy in Israel and other United States missions.
Middle East, 2019.
The Middle East remains an unstable and complex region that continues to present a serious threat to the security of our homeland. The President directs a variety of military activities in the Middle East. These include counterterrorism and military assistance and training. They also support the Iraqi or Syrian government in their fight against terrorist groups.
The AOR of CENTCOM is strategically located to counter Iran-directed instability, maintain a secure presence, and increase the strategic advantage of the United States within this region in Great Power Competition. CENTCOM is a trusted partner in the promotion of regional stability and peace, countering transnational threat, strengthening security cooperation and supporting US-led security allies in this region.
