The US and the Soviet Union: A Study in Misinformation

For many decades, the U.S.A. and Soviet Union were at odds in international affairs. Although both countries have legitimate interests, Soviet Union's military strength is too great to protect them. In order for the United States and the Soviet Union to achieve a more peaceful relationship, the Soviet Union must renounce the principle of class conflict, establish a record of conduct consistent with its pledge, and reaffirm its commitment to refrain from using force to protect its territorial integrity.

Lessons from Cuba's missile crisis

While the Cuban missile Crisis is one of most important in recent history, it has also been a great example of misinformation. It is widely believed that Khrushchev won while Kennedy won, but this is not true. This is based in a variety sources, including Soviet, American, Cuban and Soviet that have all been around for decades. Both sides suffered damage during the crisis as a result of misinformation, miscalculations, and misperception.


The Cuban missile crisis taught us a valuable lesson: Nuclear conflict is not an option. Even though all the lessons from the Cuban missile crisis are valuable, they pale when compared to the potential consequences of reckless decisions that could cause self-destruction. Even today, people are concerned about the danger posed by weapons mass destruction. Thankfully, the 1962 key players were visionary and leaders, which kept a nuclear conflict from escalating.
