In the 1980s, there was a new genre of anime: Real Robot. This was a subgenre that emphasized technological realism. It was heavily influenced by the Japanese anime Mobile Suit Gundam that featured gigantic robots in realistic military environments.

The Real Robot subgenre can also be called "walking tanks" and "walking machines". These robots are typically small, simple in design and not as powerful as the average Super Robot. Instead of being a single robot, they are a vehicle that is piloted by special characters. These characters could be military personnel or mercenaries. They are often equipped with ranged weapons. They are also mobile and can provide more defense. They are often expensive to keep. They are also often destroyed in an inexplicable manner. They are generally manufactured by corporations, or the military.

Mobile Suit Gundam, Gaiking: Legend of Daiku-Maryu are the most famous Real Robot series. These series center on a certain character piloting an actual robot. The robot is the characters' special friend. They can also have special abilities. Some robots can be magical while others can only be used for historical purposes.

A few Super Robots made a comeback in anime recently. They are not as well-known as they used to be. This is partly because of the evolution of the genre. For example, Gundam was the first anime series to feature a robot in a realistic military setting. This series launched a franchise of teenage pilots that use giant robots for combat. Command & Conquer: Tiberium also features a popular example.

The history and development of giant robots is complex. This history includes successes, failures and remakes. This history will continue to be with us for many decades. It is difficult to predict what the future holds for the mecha genre. However, it is certain that the mecha genre will continue to exist for some time. There are several notable names who have achieved real success, such as Kunio Okawara and Yuichi Ishikawa.

Mazinger Z, a manga series that inspired the Real Robot genre, was also inspiration. This series was the very first to feature a giant robot in the main character. It was a popular manga at the time and led to an anime series. The manga had realistic representations of warfare. The anime series eventually evolved from the manga, which has resulted in an excellent large robot franchise.

Although the main characters in the series are shown as having special abilities, most are trained to use a specific type of Gear. Gears are a type or armor that does not have a lot of firepower. They are often treated like light tanks. Most pilots are trained to only one type of Gear because the Gears are not interchangeable.
